India Delivers 134 Vehicles to Sri Lanka Police in Major Security Boost for Northern Province

India has formally handed over 134 single cab vehicles to the Sri Lanka Police under the Indo–Sri Lanka Friendship Programme at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, strengthening policing capacity in the Northern Province. The Rs. 300 million donation aims to enhance mobility, efficiency, and law enforcement operations across regional police stations, underscoring bilateral cooperation.

Colombo, May 25 (Daily Mirror) – The Government of India formally handed over a consignment of 134 single cab vehicles to the Sri Lanka Police under the Indo–Sri Lanka Friendship Programme at a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, where President Anura Kumara Dissanayake received the donation on behalf of the State.

The donation, valued at approximately Rs. 300 million, is intended to strengthen policing operations across Sri Lanka’s Northern Province. The newly supplied vehicles are scheduled for distribution among police stations in the region, with the objective of improving mobility, operational efficiency, and overall law enforcement capacity.

Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, addressing the ceremony, stated that India will continue to extend similar assistance to Sri Lanka in the future as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation and development support initiatives.

During the event, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya presented a commemorative memento to the Indian High Commissioner in recognition of the donation and the continued partnership between the two countries.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ravi Seneviratne, General Manager of DIMO Rajeev Pandithage, officials of the Indian High Commission, and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Police.
